On Sunday, MJD reminded you that, no, Chase Budinger's face is not a doormat. You can not go walking about on it. That's mean, Aubrey Coleman. That hurts Chase's face. ChaseFace doesn't like that, not one bit. Coleman was ejected and Arizona went on to win their game over Houston 96-90 in overtime, and that was that. Today, though the saga of Aubrey and Chase continues. (By the way, "The Saga of Aubrey and Chase" would make either a great MTV couples show or a 1970's cop buddy drama). Coleman has now officially, and with God as his witness, apologized to Chase and his stepped-on face: I want to apologize to Chase Budinger for what happened Saturday night. I never meant to step on him, Coleman said in a statement issued by the school. I have never been in an incident like this before, and I have nothing but respect for him as a great player. I love the game too much to do something like that intentionally. I want to say I am sorry from the bottom of my heart, Coleman said. I know that God knows what is in my heart, but I am hopeful that Chase will understand and forgive. OK, so that sounds sincere, even if it was written by a Houston athletics public relations lackey. And it should be noted that the video is inconclusive on whether the stomp was actually intentional -- Coleman is either very good at hiding his face-stomping intentions or very careless with his feet when there is a player's head underneath. All 18 athletes and their 20 staff enjoyed a rare, stress-free evening of fun away from the village. Halfway through the Italian dinner the event quickly started to resemble a speech workshop. After 17 speakers, it was hard to keep track, but at least 20 people stood to share words or motivation, appreciation, or in the case of a few who will remain nameless, just plain banter. The Dutch Tornado and 470 teams as well as the German Yngling team were unfortunate enough to be there as we monopolized the restaurant, but they were good sports. Two Dutch team members even toasted/roasted the USA wishing us good luck. The support shown by Team USA was phenomenal. As one sailor began to tear up, the overwhelming roar of cheers and clapping proved that this group has become a genuine unit and they know they are part of something truly special.

Heading for the boat park this morning, the first sign of humidity was the hotel lobby door. The glass was dripping with condensation, signaling the faint of heart to take one last deep breath of air conditioning. Upon walking into to this âcrisp,â Qingdao morning, sunglasses fogged for a quick few transitional seconds, and we entered the hot zone. Itâs actually not that hot (about 80 degrees F) but the humidity is mildly shocking. In the boat park this morning, Tornado skipper Johnny Lovell realized, âI must have made a mistake this morning. I ran outside, and now even after a cold shower I still canât cool off.â He immediately slipped into a cooling vest. These vests are strapped with ice packs and unfortunately Johnny happened to grab the one that looked like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but at least heâs cooling off.

Olympic Sailing Regatta Day 8: Mixed Bag for Qingdao Racing

Qingdao, China (August 16, 2008) â" Qingdao offered a mixed bag of breezes for todayâs packed schedule. 470 Men and Women were able to fully catch up to their ten-race program, with eight knots in their first races dying to a subsequent five or six knots. However, all nine other events were unable to keep up with their allotted races. 49ers may have seen the worst racing today with a 120 degree shift in their first race. Despite the tricky day, Tim Wadlow (Beverly, Mass.) and Chris Rast (San Diego, Calif.) managed a third place. Rast said, âWe hoisted the chute halfway up the second beat and then no one knew where the finish was. But we saw 270 degrees displayed at the course change, so we just made progress toward 270.â They sailed most of the final leg without the finish line in sight, but their blind progress was perfectly directed, and they passed from 8th to third on that leg.

Qingdao, China (August 15, 2008) â" Winds did not cooperate with todayâs aggressive catch-up schedule for the Olympic Sailing Regatta and all racing was postponed for four hours due to light and shifty winds. Boats were held in delays on the water, and some classes were brought in around 2:00 p.m. to wait onshore. Boats were re-launched after a brief wait and the Finns had started racing by 3:45 p.m. As they were in a delayed start that could not be rescheduled in time to make the day, 49ers were canceled for the day at 4:00 p.m. From noon to 4:00 p.m., hourly wind directions were reported in degrees as follows: 86; 69; 117; 79; 23. Though winds steadied out, sailors from different courses and different countries agreed todayâs racing was dicey. In the words of one sailor, the sailing today was âmarginal at best.â All classes sailed one race today, except the 470 Women who were able to sneak in two races.

John Dane may not be "lanky" any more, but he is still that same "cocky" sailor who can rumble with the best in the world. Check out his resume from almost 40 years ago in the Sports Illustrated Vault: "In the 1970 World Soling class championships he had defeated a truly great Daneâ"perhaps the best sailor in the world todayâ"Paul Elvstrom. And for two years the Tulane Dane had been a collegiate All-America[n]. He had taken the North American junior sailing championship at Annapolis in 1967. In 1969 he was the North American Soling champion. He had raced aboard the converted 12-meter sloop American Eagle with Ted Turner , a man he resembles in voice and sailing passion. Last summer in his spare time Dane jammed his lanky frame into a Windmill dinghy and won the world championship in that class. As much as anything, he did it for a friend who wanted to sell his Windmill, reasoning that a world-champion boat would have some value."

Team Seven Sails to Second Place at Yngling European Championship in Blanes, Spain

Portsmouth, R.I. (April 5, 2008) After a week of extremely tight racing at the Yngling European Championship in Blanes, Spain, US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics members Sally Barkow, Carrie Howe, and Debbie Capozzi stole the medal race by a nose and finished in second place overall. Having led on the first day of racing, Team Seven fell after a bad race on day two, but kept chipping away in the close fleet where every point counted. They were just one point out of first place at this yearâs Yngling European Championship, and despite this close loss they seemed thrilled with the medal race results. In a team email, they gave a play-by-play of the medal race, which boiled down to a surfing contest on the last leg to the downwind finish. With five boats abreast all vying for the win, Team Sevenâs Debbie Capozzi called for a late gybe, which edged them about one foot in front of Sarah Ayton of Great Britain. Ayton and her team went on to win the regatta.

(May 7, 2008)- Ten members of the US Disabled Sailing Team AlphaGraphics have landed in Qingdao, China, and are preparing for five days of racing at the International Association For Disabled Sailing (IFDS) Qingdao International Regatta. The U.S. has sent five of its top-ranked teams to this May 11-15 event: in the Sonar, the Paralympic team of Rick Doerr (Clifton, N.J.), Tim Angle (Marblehead, Mass.), and Bill Donohue (Brick, N.J.) will race, as well as the second-ranked team led by Paul Callahan (Providence, R.I.) with Mike Hersey (Hyannis, Mass.) and Roger Cleworth (Lithia, Fla.) as crew.
